Northern Pass electricity comes from a “GREEN” hydro-electric, power-generating source that will reduce carbon dioxide in our air.
Northern Pass electricity will be produced by a low-carbon hydroelectric system, which produces power by water spinning turbines. Hydro-power is clean energy because it does not burn gas or coal; electricity produced by dam systems does not produce green house gases so it does not pollute the atmosphere.
The long-term environmental benefits for us in New Hampshire and everyone in New England is that the power-generation will replace other forms of power that make up to 5 million tons of carbon dioxide each year. With Northern Pass producing more of our energy, it will be like taking almost 1 million cars off our roads.
It is a FACT that about which we are very aware: New England relies on natural gas, a fossil fuel, to make our electricity, spending over $2 billion annually for all fossil fuels – but using hydroelectric power will help reduce carbon emissions.
Energy For Our Future
Hydroelectric plants emit fewer greenhouse gases than power plants that use gas, coal or oil, so hydroelectricity can help curb global warming. Worldwide, hydroelectricity prevents the emission of greenhouse gases that would otherwise be like burning 4.4 million barrels of gas or oil each day.
